N-Acetyl-L-glutamic acid is a biologically active compound that naturally occurs within cells. It is a significant component of the urea cycle and has the ability to inhibit the activity of enzymes like ester hydrochloride synthetase. This enzyme catalyzes the conversion of arginine and citrulline into ornithine and carbamoyl phosphate. N-Acetyl-L-glutamic acid also holds a role in cellular physiology, contributing to transcriptional regulation and protein synthesis. Insufficient levels of this compound can lead to glutamate accumulation and neurological disorders, such as epilepsy.
