SEE ALSO...

MIF Antibody (D-2) is a mouse monoclonal IgM antibody that detects macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) in mouse, rat, and human samples through various applications including western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). MIF Antibody (D-2) is available in both non-conjugated and multiple conjugated forms, such as agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and various Alexa Fluor® conjugates. MIF, also known as glycosylation-inhibiting factor, is a secreted, homotrimeric pro-inflammatory cytokine that plays a crucial role in modulating macrophage and T cell functions, making MIF an essential regulator of host immune response to infection. MIF is primarily produced by the pituitary gland and is expressed in various cell types, including monocytes, macrophages, and differentiating immunological cells in the eye lens and brain, as well as fibroblasts. Notably, MIF is found at sites of inflammation, indicating MIF′s significant role in regulating macrophage activity during host defense. Elevated levels of MIF have been associated with severe sepsis and septic shock, where MIF enhances the production of other inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor α, interleukin-1, and interferon-γ, thereby promoting a systemic inflammatory response. Furthermore, MIF may contribute to tissue damage by inducing proteinases, highlighting MIF′s dual role in both immune regulation and potential pathophysiological processes.

What application is the blocking peptide sc-271631 P appropriate for?

Asked by: DefinitelyNotMatt
Thank you for your question. The blocking peptide is intended for use as a negative control, by pre-adsorbing the mouse monoclonal antibody against the antigen. For full protocol details, please contact our Technical Services Department or view our online protocol here: https://www.scbt.com/scbt/resources/protocols/peptide-neutralization
