Galanthamine hydrochloride is a selective inhibitor of AChE (acetylcholinesterase). This compound binds to acetylcholinesterase at the anionic binding site and competitively inhibits the enzyme, allowing ACh to persist in the synaptic space and active AChR, causing the opening of ion channels and the depolarization of nerves, leading to muscular contraction.
