PWP1, also known as periodic tryptophan protein 1 or endonuclein, is a 501 amino acid protein that serves as the human homolog of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae periodic Trp protein. PWP1 is primarily localized in the nucleus and is highly expressed in critical tissues such as the kidneys, pancreas, placenta, and skeletal muscle, highlighting an essential role in transcription and cell growth. PWP1 contains five WD-repeats, which are structural motifs that facilitate protein-protein interactions, and is believed to be involved in the development of pancreatic cancer.
