QUICK LINKS

Margatoxin, Recombinant is originally isolated from the scorpion Centruroides margaritatus, is a specific blocker of Kv1.3, Kv1.6 channels and a splice variant of the Drosophila Shaker channels. In Xenopus oocytes the toxin was less potent and inhibited expressed Kv1.3 channels with an apparent IC50 of ~1 nM. Margatoxin has been shown induce c-fos like protein and mRNA in rat organotypic dorsal striatal slices. But in human endothelial cells margatoxin inhibited VEGF-induced hyperpolarization, proliferation and nitric oxide production.
