IL-1ra Antibody (6A8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) in human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). IL-1ra plays a crucial role in modulating the immune response by inhibiting the activity of interleukin-1α and interleukin-1β, both of which are key pro-inflammatory cytokines. By binding to the same receptors as IL-1α and IL-1β without eliciting a biological response, IL-1ra effectively acts as a natural antagonist, thereby preventing excessive inflammation and tissue damage. This regulatory function is particularly important in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, where the overactivity of IL-1 can lead to severe joint inflammation and degradation. The presence of four isoforms of IL-1ra, produced through alternative splicing, adds complexity to regulatory mechanisms and potential therapeutic applications.
