COX5b Antibody (C-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects COX5b protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). COX5b Antibody (C-5) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. COX5b plays a crucial role in cellular respiration as part of the cytochrome c oxidase (COX) complex, which is essential for the final step of the electron transport chain. This complex is located in the inner mitochondrial membrane, where COX5b facilitates the conversion of oxygen and hydrogen into water, thereby driving the proton gradient necessary for ATP synthesis. The structure of the COX complex consists of a dimeric assembly of 13 subunits, with COX5b being one of the key components that adapt to varying oxygen levels. Under high oxygen conditions, the aerobic isoform COX5a is expressed, while COX5b is upregulated in hypoxic conditions, ensuring efficient energy production under fluctuating environmental conditions. This adaptability underscores COX5b′s importance in maintaining cellular energy homeostasis, making anti-COX5b antibody (C-5) an invaluable tool for researchers studying mitochondrial function and respiratory physiology.
