Cox-2 Antibody (29) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody raised against a C-terminal peptide consisting of amino acids 580-598 of human Cyclooxygenase-2 (Cox-2), reactive with mouse, rat, and human proteins, and suitable for applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), flow cytometry (FCM), and immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP). Cox-2, also known as Prostaglandin-Endoperoxide Synthase 2 (PTGS2), is an inducible enzyme that plays a pivotal role in the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandins, which are lipid mediators involved in inflammation, pain, and fever. Unlike its constitutively expressed isoform Cox-1, Cox-2 is minimally expressed under normal physiological conditions but is significantly upregulated in response to inflammatory stimuli, cytokines, growth factors, and tumor promoters. This upregulation leads to increased production of prostaglandins, contributing to the inflammatory response and pain perception. Overexpression of Cox-2 has been implicated in various pathological conditions, including chronic inflammation, arthritis, and the progression of certain cancers such as colorectal, breast, and lung cancer. Cox-2 is a key therapeutic target for nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and selective Cox-2 inhibitors (coxibs), which aim to reduce inflammation and pain by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis. Understanding the expression and regulation of Cox-2 is crucial for elucidating the mechanisms underlying inflammatory diseases and cancer progression, thereby aiding in the development of targeted therapeutic strategies.
