AP-2β Antibody (1F3/8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects AP-2β in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB) and immunoprecipitation (IP). AP-2β, a crucial member of the AP-2 transcription factor family, plays a significant role in gene regulation by binding to the DNA consensus sequence CCCCAGGC, thereby initiating transcription of specific target genes. AP-2β is a splice variant of AP-2α and serves as a negative regulator of AP-2 activity, which is essential for maintaining the balance of gene expression in various biological processes. AP-2β is primarily located in the nucleus, where AP-2β influences the transcriptional regulation of genes involved in cell growth and differentiation. This localization allows AP-2β to interact with other transcription factors and co-regulators, thereby modulating the expression of genes linked to critical cellular functions, including those associated with cancer progression. AP-2β is involved in the development of ectodermal-derived tissues, and mutations in AP-2β can lead to developmental disorders, highlighting AP-2β′s importance in both normal physiology and disease states. Through interaction with the OB2-1 transcription factor complex, AP-2β also plays a role in the upregulation of the proto-oncogene c-ErbB-2, which is overexpressed in a significant percentage of breast cancers, making AP-2β a key player in oncogenic signaling pathways.
