8-Methoxymethyl-IBMX has been reported to be a selective inhibitor of calmodulin-stimulated phosphodiesterase (Cam-PDE). By inhibiting Cam-PDE, 8-Methoxymethyl-IBMX causes an increase in cGMP but not in cAMP levels in 1-norepinephrine preincubated rabbit aortic slices. Experiments performed on catheterized rabbits with acute pulmonary hypertension show that the compound may cause a decrease in pulmonary artery pressure by causing vasodilation.
