Thorin is a synthetic compound used as a chromogenic reagent in analytical chemistry. Its ability to form colored complexes with various metal ions makes it especially useful in the photometric detection and quantification of metals in various samples. It can be used as a reagent for the determination of thorium and as an indicator used in the titrimetric determination of organic sulfur compounds and sulfate with Ba(ClO4)2. Thorin is also effective for the analysis of magnesium, which forms a red complex with the reagent, allowing for the sensitive and specific detection of magnesium ions in complex matrices.
