SOD-2 Antibody (B-1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody raised against amino acids 1-222, representing the full-length Superoxide Dismutase 2 (SOD2) protein of human origin, and is reactive with mouse, rat, and human species. SOD2, also known as manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD), is a vital mitochondrial enzyme that catalyzes the dismutation of superoxide anion into hydrogen peroxide and oxygen, serving as a primary defense against oxidative stress within cells. Synthesized in the cytosol as a precursor protein, SOD2 undergoes crucial post-translational modifications, including mitochondrial targeting and cleavage of its N-terminal signal sequence, enabling proper localization and activation within the mitochondrial matrix.
