SMC1α Antibody (E-8) is a mouse monoclonal IgM antibody that detects SMC1α in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). SMC1α, also known as structural maintenance of chromosomes protein 1A, is a crucial 1,233 amino acid nuclear protein that plays a vital role in maintaining chromosome cohesion during the cell cycle. SMC1α is a key component of the cohesion complex, which is essential for the proper alignment and separation of sister chromatids following DNA replication. SMC1α′s importance extends beyond its structural role; SMC1α interacts with BRCA1 and is phosphorylated by ATM, highlighting SMC1α′s involvement in DNA repair mechanisms. Mutations in the gene encoding SMC1α have been linked to Cornelia de Lange syndrome (CdLS), a developmental disorder characterized by facial dysmorphia, upper limb malformations, and cognitive impairments. Anti-SMC1α antibody (E-8) provides a valuable tool for researchers studying chromosome dynamics and molecular pathways associated with genomic stability and developmental disorders.
