N′-Formylkynurenine (NFK) is a photooxidation product of Tryptophan and a photosensitizer of near-ultraviolet radiation by generating singlet oxygen and superoxides. It is an important intermediate in the kynurenine pathway, which is a major metabolic pathway for the metabolism of tryptophan in mammals.
