SEE ALSO...

GFAP Antibody (2A5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody designed to detect glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), an essential intermediate filament protein belonging to the type III subclass of intermediate filaments. GFAP, also known as ALXDRD, plays a crucial role in maintaining the structural integrity and functionality of astroglial cells within the central nervous system. GFAP is characterized by its tripartite structure, comprising an amino-terminal head domain, a central α-helical rod domain responsible for filament assembly, and a carboxy-terminal tail domain that facilitates interactions with other cellular proteins and organelles. Post-translational modifications of GFAP, particularly phosphorylation, are vital for regulating filament dynamics, assembly, and the cellular response to injury, making the detection of these modifications important for understanding astrocyte behavior in various pathological conditions. GFAP monoclonal antibody (2A5) is raised against purified porcine spinal cord GFAP and exhibits robust reactivity across multiple species, including mouse, rat, human, and porcine, making GFAP (2A5) antibody an ideal tool for applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP). Anti-GFAP antibody (2A5) is particularly valuable for studying astrogliosis, a process marked by increased GFAP expression in response to neurological insults such as mechanical trauma, AIDS related dementia, prion infections, and inflammatory demyelinating diseases, thereby providing critical insights into the mechanisms underlying central nervous system disorders. Available in a non-conjugated form, GFAP (2A5) monoclonal antibody is an indispensable reagent for researchers aiming to elucidate the complex roles of GFAP in neural health and disease, facilitating advanced studies into the molecular and cellular pathways that govern astrocyte function and response to injury.
