Myelin P2 Antibody (A-3) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects Myelin P2 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Myelin P2 (A-3) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Myelin P2 protein, also known as peripheral myelin protein-2 (PMP2), is a small basic protein that plays a crucial role in forming and maintaining myelin sheaths in the peripheral nervous system. PMP2′s primary function involves fatty acid transport and myelin lipid metabolism, which are essential for proper nerve fiber insulation and efficient signal transmission. PMP2 shares structural similarities with fatty acid binding proteins found in other tissues, yet expression remains uniquely restricted to myelin-producing cells in central and peripheral nervous systems. The PMP2 gene is located on chromosome 8 and features a TA-rich element in its 5-prime flanking region, which is important for transcriptional regulation.
