Vitexin is a naturally-occuring flavonoid and lignan compound that is identified in various plant sources. It is demonstrated to produce antioxidant effects in accord with other flavonoid compounds. Furthermore, it has anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, anti-cancer, anti-microbial, anti-angiogenic, and anti-hypertensive activities. Vitexin exerts its effects by modulating a variety of cellular pathways, including the NF-κB pathway, the MAPK pathway, and the PI3K/Akt pathway. In addition, it has been found to inhibit the activity of a variety of enzymes, including cyclooxygenase-2, 5-lipoxygenase, and nitric oxide synthase.
