QUICK LINKS

Sennoside B is a compound that functions as a stimulant laxative in experimental applications. It acts by being metabolized by bacteria in the colon, leading to the production of active metabolites. These metabolites then stimulate the nerve endings in the colon, increasing the motility of the colon and promoting the secretion of water and electrolytes into the bowel lumen. This results in the softening of the stool and increased bowel movements. Sennoside B targets the smooth muscle cells in the colon, where it binds to specific receptors and triggers intracellular events that ultimately lead to increased peristalsis. Its mechanism of action involves the modulation of ion channels and the release of neurotransmitters, leading to enhanced contractility of the colon muscles. Sennoside B plays a role in promoting bowel movements and relieving constipation in experimental applications.
