Fomepizole is an ADH(alcohol dehydrogenase) inhibitor. This can be used as an antidote in methanol and ethylene glycol poisoning. Also inhibits CYP2E1 activity. In addition, 4-methylpyrazole inhibits the enzyme glycol dehydrogenase which breaks down glycols into harmless components. This leads to an accumulation of toxic intermediate products that are converted back into glycols.
