Folinic acid calcium salt offsets the effects of folic acid antagonists that act by binding dihydrofolate reductase and blocking the conversion of folic acid to tetrahydrofolate. It also decreases methotrexate toxicity. Calcium folinate is also used in mutagenisis and cancer research.
