Bismuth nitrate oxide is used in the spectrophotometric detection of bismuth. The primary mode of action for NOB is the inhibition of nitric oxide synthase (NOS), an enzyme responsible for nitric oxide (NO) production. By impeding NOS, NOB hinders the generation of NO, which is known to induce various physiological effects.
