Sodium thioglycolate is a sulfur-containing organic compound. It is a reducing agent, to break disulfide bonds in proteins. Sodium thioglycolate is to prevent the oxidation of growth factors and other sensitive components. It is utilized in the isolation of intact mitochondria from cells, as it helps to maintain the redox state of the organelles.
