2-Hydroxydodecanoic acid is a racemic mixture of D and L-alpha-hydroxylauric acid and a fatty acid found in nature. It is employed in a variety of scientific and industrial applications, including as a surfactant, emulsifier, and lubricant. 2-Hydroxydodecanoic acid may be used to evaluate chiral separation methods for medium chain saturated hydroxyl fatty acids. Additionally, it is used in the synthesis of polymers, other materials, and fatty acids, which are vital components of cell membranes and other biological structures. Furthermore, it can decrease the production of pro-inflammatory molecules like cytokines and reactive oxygen species, while also reducing cholesterol and triglyceride levels and elevating HDL (good) cholesterol production.
