Ammonium carbonate is a common reagent utilized as a porogen, oxidant, and leavening agent in some experiments. It is also used in the synthesis of certain organic compounds, as a catalyst in several chemical reactions, and as a reagent in the preparation of certain metal complexes. In addition, it serves as a source of ammonia in the preparation of certain enzyme substrates. In certain studies, ammonium carbonate was applied as a complexing agent. In laboratory experiments, Ammonium carbonate can act as an acid-base buffer, which helps to maintain a constant pH level.
