6-Benzylaminopurine is a plant cell division factor that stimulates Ca2+ influx (KM = 1 nM) by moss protoplasts. It has been reported to induce positive inotropic effects through activation of P2X and P2Y (P2-purinergic receptors). When complexed with copper, it catalyzes molecular oxygen dismutation at physiological pH. 6-Benzylaminopurine is a common plant growth regulator that acts as a substitute for the plant hormone gibberellin. It is used to enhance the growth and development of plants, as well as to induce flowering and fruit set. It has been used extensively in research to study the effects of plant hormones on plant growth, development, physiology, photosynthesis and respiration.
