20-Hydroxyecdysone is the most widely occurring ecdysteroid in both plant and animal species. It controls cell death during metamorphosis of Drosophila melanogaster. It acts by stimulating the production of proteins involved in cell growth and differentiation. In addition, 20-Hydroxyecdysone has been found to activate a number of signaling pathways, including the PI3K/Akt and MAPK pathways. In vitro studies have been conducted to investigate its effects on various cell types. In these studies, it has been found to have a wide range of effects, including anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, anti-obesity, anabolic, and androgenic effects.
