Perillic Acid, a metabolite of perillyl alcohol, may act to elicit cytotoxicity, induce cell cycle arrest and apoptosis via an increase in expression of p21, Bax, and caspase-3 activity in cells. This compound has also been found to be a major metabolite of d-limonene (sc-205283), a solvent of cholesterol. Perillic Acid has been noted to inhibit isoprenylation. Studies suggest that this agent has demonstrated the capacity to produce morphological changes to murine lens epithelial cells in culture and cause opacification of the lenses.
