T2R60 Inhibitors

Chemical inhibitors of T2R60 include a variety of compounds that can inhibit the function of this bitter taste receptor. Phenylthiourea acts on T2R60 by competitive inhibition, occupying the receptor's active sites and preventing the perception of bitterness by blocking signal transduction. Propylthiouracil operates through a similar mechanism, competitively inhibiting T2R60 by binding to its ligand-binding sites, which inhibits the receptor's signaling capabilities. Continuing with the list of inhibitory chemicals, sucrose octaacetate attaches to the active site of T2R60, inhibiting activation by the receptor's natural bitter ligands and thereby blocking signal transduction. Amarogentin and absinthin both target the ligand-binding site of T2R60, preventing activation by natural bitter compounds, which inhibits taste signal transduction. Humulone inhibits T2R60 through competitive binding to active sites, blocking the receptor from responding to bitter compounds and inhibiting signaling. Lupulone's interaction with the receptor's active site similarly prevents the reception and signaling of bitter compounds. Magnolol round out the list of inhibitors by competitively binding to T2R60's ligand-binding domain and by directly interacting with the receptor's signaling mechanism, respectively. Each of these chemicals thus plays a role in inhibiting the perception of bitterness by preventing the activation of T2R60 and its subsequent signaling pathways.
