着色性干皮病（XP）是一种常染色体隐性遗传疾病，其特征是对阳光诱导的皮肤癌症的遗传易感性；通常是由于DNA修复酶的缺陷。最常见突变存在于A组至G组和V组的XP基因中，这些基因编码核苷酸切除修复蛋白。XPF，也被称为ERCC4或ERCC11，与切除修复交叉互补因子1（ERCC1）直接相关。ERCC-1是酿酒酵母中Rad10的功能同源物，是结构特异性内切酶的组成部分，在DNA修复过程中负责5'切割。ERCC1-XPF内切核酸酶优先切割茎环结构边界附近的双链和单链区域之间的DNA单链，从而有助于核苷酸切除修复过程的初始步骤。
