Ethyl gallate, also referred to as 2-ethoxybenzoic acid and ethyl 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoate, is a naturally occurring phenolic compound present in various plants. It exists as a colorless solid without any odor and melts at a temperature range of 158-160° C. Laboratory studies have revealed its ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species and inhibit the production of cytokines. Additionally, ethyl gallate has demonstrated inhibitory effects on the growth of various fungal species, including Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger, and Trichophyton mentagrophytes.
