Thank you for your question about our rabbit polyclonal antibody, sc-371: IkB-alpha (C-21). The expected molecular weight for IkB-alpha is approximately 37 kDa. This protein may also be phosphorylated which is one possible explanation for why you may also be detecting an additional slightly higher molecular weight band in your samples. I would recommend including additional controls in your experiment to confirm if the additional band above 37 kDa is also IkB-alpha, and a result of the binding of the specific primary antibody. One suggestion is to treat your lysates with Lambda Phosphatase: sc-200312 (https://www.scbt.com/scbt/product/lambda-phosphatase?requestFrom=search) to release phosphate groups and observe the difference in detection by Western blot. I would also recommend to perform a secondary antibody control blot (without primary antibody) to confirm that there is not any non-specific binding of your secondary antibody alone.
