Genistin is an isoflavone glycoside found in soy-based food products. This is an inactive analog of the PTK inhibitor Genistein and can be used as a negative control for Genistein. It has been reported to reduce bone loss in ovarectomized rats. Genistin is a phytoestrogen and an inhibitor of TdT. It may act to modulate the activity of certain enzymes, including COX-2 and MMPs. It also inhibits the growth of certain cancer cells and induces apoptosis. Additionally, Genistin possesses anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and anti-oxidant effects.
