QUICK LINKS

Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin) is part of a coenzyme needed for the synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids, and for the metabolism of carbohydrates. The body undergoes a conversion process to transform it into its bioactive forms, namely methylcobalamin and cobamamide. These forms act as essential cofactors for various enzymes within the body. Vitamin B12 plays a role in the synthesis of myelin. The compound is also used as an antipernicious anemia factor.
