trans Lacidipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel protein inhibitor and blocker. Structurally, trans Lacidipine is characterized by its cinnamate moiety, which results in specific photochemical properties that differ from other dihydropyridine. Studies indicate that upon irradtiation with monochromatic radiation at λ=313 nm, cis Lacidipine (sc-217905) was degraded and the concentration of trans Lacidipine was increased. It is known that calcium channel blockers such as trans Lacidipine function by blocking voltage gated calcium channels on cell membranes of cardiac muscle and blood vessels. As a result of this inhibition there is a reduction in cardiac muscle and blood vessel contraction.
