Synaptopodin Antibody (D-9) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Synaptopodin of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). anti-Synaptopodin antibody (D-9) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Synaptopodin plays a crucial role in the structural integrity and plasticity of dendritic spines, which are essential for synaptic transmission and neuronal communication. Synaptopodin is a proline-rich, actin-associated protein predominantly expressed in mature dendritic spines and renal podocytes, where Synaptopodin links actin filaments to the spine apparatus, facilitating dynamic cytoskeleton remodeling in response to synaptic activity. This remodeling is vital for processes such as long-term potentiation (LTP), as Synaptopodin expression increases during LTP and correlates with its persistence. In the hippocampus, Synaptopodin is localized to the spine neck of principal neurons, while in renal podocytes, Synaptopodin is found in the foot processes, highlighting Synaptopodin′s importance in both neural and renal function. Synaptopodin is absent in the sclerosed glomeruli of idiopathic nephrotic syndrome, indicating Synaptopodin′s potential role as a biomarker for kidney disease. Additionally, Myopodin, a related protein, is expressed in skeletal and cardiac muscle and shares similar actin-bundling properties, suggesting a broader significance of the synaptopodin family in various tissues.
