SUCLA2 Antibody (A-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects SUCLA2 in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). SUCLA2, also known as A-BETA, SCS-betaA, or renal carcinoma antigen NY-REN-39, is a 463 amino acid enzyme located in the mitochondrial matrix, playing a crucial role in the tricarboxylic acid cycle by dimerizing with the SCS alpha subunit to form succinyl-CoA synthetase (SCS-A). This enzyme is essential for energy production, as SUCLA2 catalyzes the conversion of succinyl-CoA to succinate, generating ATP or GTP in the process. Proper functioning of SUCLA2 is vital, as defects can lead to a range of autosomal recessive disorders known as Mitochondrial DNA depletion syndromes (MDSs), which are characterized by a significant reduction in mitochondrial DNA copy numbers in affected tissues. Additionally, SUCLA2 mutations have been associated with progressive external ophthalmoplegia, ataxia-neuropathy, and mitochondrial neurogastrointestinal encephalomyopathy, highlighting SUCLA2′s importance in maintaining mitochondrial integrity and function. Notably, two SUCLA2 isoforms arise from alternative splicing, which may have implications for functional diversity and regulatory mechanisms in various tissues.
