SO Antibody (QQ-8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects sulfite oxidase in human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-sulfite oxidase antibody (QQ-8) recognizes sulfite oxidase, a crucial homodimeric enzyme located in the intermembrane space of mitochondria, where sulfite oxidase plays a vital role in the oxidative degradation of sulfur-containing amino acids, specifically cysteine and methionine. By catalyzing the conversion of sulfite to sulfate, sulfite oxidase is essential for maintaining sulfur metabolism and preventing the accumulation of toxic sulfite levels, which can lead to severe neurological disorders. Genetic deficiencies in sulfite oxidase are linked to significant health issues, including early mortality due to neurological abnormalities. Notably, mutations such as the Arginine 160 alteration can severely impair sulfite oxidase function by reducing the intramolecular electron transfer rate, exacerbating the severity of the associated genetic disorder. Additionally, the tyrosine 343 residue is critical for both substrate binding and the oxidation process, highlighting the intricate structure-function relationship of sulfite oxidase. The human SO gene is located on chromosome 12 and exhibits high expression levels in various tissues, including the liver, kidney, skeletal muscle, heart, placenta, and brain, underscoring its importance in human physiology.
