Smoothelin Antibody (B-1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b antibody that detects smoothelin in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Smoothelin is a crucial cytoskeletal protein that plays a significant role in the structure and function of contractile smooth muscle cells, where smoothelin is exclusively expressed. Anti-smoothelin antibody (B-1) associates with actin stress fibers, contributing to the contractile properties of smooth muscle. Notably, smoothelin exists in at least two isoforms produced by alternative splicing, with the short isoform being expressed in visceral muscle tissues like the intestine and stomach, while the long isoform is found in all vascularized organs. Smoothelin expression is particularly important in the vascular system, where smoothelin is limited to large veins and arteries capable of pulsatile contraction, making smoothelin a valuable marker for studying vascular malformations and injuries. The gene encoding human smoothelin is located on chromosome 22q12.2, highlighting smoothelin′s evolutionary conservation among vertebrates and significance in smooth muscle cell differentiation and function. Anti-smoothelin antibody (B-1) is an indispensable tool for researchers investigating the dynamics of smooth muscle cells and their role in various physiological and pathological processes.
