SMC1 Antibody (C2M) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects SMC1 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB) and immunoprecipitation (IP). Anti-SMC1 antibody (C2M) is available as a non-conjugated format. SMC1, a member of the structural maintenance of chromosomes (SMC) family, plays a crucial role in maintaining chromatid cohesion and ensuring proper chromosome condensation during mitosis, which is vital for accurate cell division and genomic stability. SMC1 forms a heterodimeric complex with SMC3, and together they are essential for the progression of cells through metaphase, functioning independently of the SMC2/SMC4 complex. SMC1 is ubiquitously expressed across various human tissues, including the thymus, testis, and colon, highlighting its fundamental role in cellular processes. Notably, SMC3, which interacts with SMC1, is primarily localized in the nucleus of colon cells but can also be found as a secreted proteoglycan in the testis and brain, where SMC3 is believed to contribute to basement membrane physiology through multiple glycosylation sites. SMC1′s interaction with other proteins in the SMC family underscores its importance in chromosomal dynamics and cellular integrity, making SMC1 (C2M) monoclonal antibody a valuable tool for researchers studying cell cycle regulation and chromosomal behavior.

I am using SMC1 (C2M): sc-56776 antibody for immunoprecipitation, how much antibody should I use?

Asked by: Professor Griffin
Thank you for your question. We recommend using 1–10 µl (i.e., 0.2–2 µg) of antibody with 1 ml of cell lysate. However, optimal antibody concentration should be determined by titration. Please find our full immunoprecipitation protocol here: https://www.scbt.com/scbt/resources/protocols/immunoprecipitation-western-blots
