Proteinase K [EC 3.4.21.64] has an active-site catalytic triad (Asp39-His69-Ser224). It hydrolyzes peptide amides and catalyzes the reaction of keratin hydrolysis, as well as other proteins with substilisin-like specificity. Originally sourced from the mold Tritirachium album Limber, Proteinase K [EC 3.4.21.64] is also formerly known as the previous designations EC 3.4.4.16 and EC 3.4.21.14.
