(+)-Pilocarpine hydrochloride is a cholinergic agonist that acts as a muscarinic receptor stimulant. It functions by binding to and activating muscarinic acetylcholine receptors, leading to the stimulation of smooth muscle, glandular secretions, and the central nervous system. (+)-Pilocarpine Hydrochloride′s mechanism of action involves increasing the levels of intracellular cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) and calcium, resulting in the activation of phospholipase C and the subsequent release of inositol trisphosphate and diacylglycerol. This cascade of events ultimately leads to the opening of potassium channels and the depolarization of cell membranes.
