Periaxin Antibody (G-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects periaxin protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-periaxin antibody (G-5) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Periaxin, also known as PRX, is a crucial 1,461 amino acid protein that features one PDZ (DHR) domain and is a member of the periaxin family. PRX plays a vital role in maintaining peripheral nerve myelin sheath, which is essential for proper nerve function and signal transmission. PRX is involved in axon-glial interactions, potentially by binding to cytoplasmic domains of integral membrane proteins located in periaxonal regions of Schwann cell plasma membranes. Defects in PRX are associated with Dejerine-Sottas syndrome, a condition characterized by motor and sensory neuropathy, slow nerve conduction velocities, and other neurological deficits. Additionally, mutations in PRX are implicated in CMT4F, an autosomal recessive form of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. PRX gene is located on human chromosome 19q13.2, highlighting its significance in genetic studies related to peripheral neuropathies.
