MTSEA-Fluorescein is a thiol specific fluorescent probe useful for protein topology and ion channel research. MTS-fluorophores may be useful in the real-time monitoring of conformational changes. MTS compounds have been shown to irreversibly activate the BNC1-G430C neuronal cation channel only when the channel was activated by protons. This suggests that fluorescent MTS reagents may be used as reporters of cell surface localization as well as the functional status of ion channels.
