Hepatocyte Specific Antigen Antibody (3D16) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects Hepatocyte Specific Antigen (HSA) in human samples through immunofluorescence (IF) and immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP). HSA, also known as Hepatocyte Paraffin 1 or Hep Par 1, is primarily localized to the mitochondria of hepatocytes, playing a crucial role in the identification and diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC) in both humans and dogs. HSA serves as a sensitive marker that helps differentiate HCC from metastatic carcinomas and cholangiocarcinomas, with strong expression levels correlating with smaller tumor sizes and improved patient survival rates. HSA presence is particularly significant as HSA may also indicate the potential for intestinal metaplasia, a condition that can precede cancer development. While HCCs predominantly express HSA, a small percentage may not, suggesting alternative mechanisms of hepatocarcinogenesis in the early stages of the disease. HSA is found in gastric carcinomas and a few other non-hepatic tumors, underscoring HSA relevance in cancer diagnostics.
