QUICK LINKS

Digoxigenin-Mono(digitoxoside), also called Dig-Mono, is a metabolite of Digoxin (Dx) which is found in various species of plants. Dig-Mono is a substrate for the enzyme alkaline phosphatase (AP). When AP binds to Dig-Mono, it catalyzes the hydrolysis of the compound into digoxigenin and a monodigitoxoside. The digoxigenin is then further hydrolyzed into digoxigenin-monophosphate, which can be used as a substrate for other enzymes. In cell culture studies, Dig-Mono may act to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. It also finds applications as a labeling agent in various research techniques. In immunohistochemistry, it serves as a label for antibodies and proteins, facilitating the visualization of their location within tissue sections. During FISH (Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization), it acts as a label for DNA probes, enabling the identification of specific DNA sequences within cells and tissues. In Western blotting, it functions as a label for antibodies, allowing the detection and quantification of specific proteins in samples.
