Deamino-histidine is a histidine metabolite, potentially involved in oxidation or transamiination processes. Deamino-histidine is an inducer of the histidine-utilization system in Salmonella typhimurium. Deamino-histidine is able to inhibit the organism′s growth on succinate minimal medium. Studies using 2,3,5-triphenyl tetrazolium chloride plates to examine amino acid catabloism have shown that accumulation of Deamino-histidine may lead to inactivation of aspartate aminio-transferase.
