SEE ALSO...

ASA Antibody (H-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects ASA protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). ASA (H-5) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. ASA protein, also known as arylsulfatase A, cerebroside-sulfatase, ARSA, or MLD, is a crucial 507 amino acid lysosomal enzyme that plays a significant role in the hydrolysis of cerebroside 3-sulfate into cerebroside and sulfate, utilizing magnesium as a cofactor. This enzymatic activity is vital for the proper metabolism of sulfatides, which are essential components of myelin, the protective sheath surrounding nerve fibers. Impairments in ASA function lead to severe neurological disorders, including metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD), characterized by progressive ataxia, dementia, seizures, and spastic tetraparesis, ultimately resulting in life-threatening complications. Furthermore, deficiencies in ASA activity are linked to multiple sulfatase deficiency (MSD), a condition that affects the activity of all known sulfatases and manifests with a range of symptoms, including developmental delays and various metabolic disorders. Anti-ASA antibody (H-5) provides researchers with a powerful tool for studying these critical pathways and understanding the underlying mechanisms of related diseases.
