Anabasine hydrochloride is a tobacco alkaloid and potent nicotinic AChR (acetylcholine receptor) agonist. Shown to inhibit the conversion of androstenedione of estrogen in human choriocarcinoma cells, via inhibiting the aromatase enzyme. In vitro, Anabasine hydrochloride may act to stimulate Ca2+-dependent catecholamine release from rat adrenomedullary cells.
