ADH5 Antibody (2D11) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects ADH5 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-ADH5 antibody (2D11) is available as the non-conjugated format. ADH5, also known as alcohol dehydrogenase 5 (class III), formaldehyde dehydrogenase, ADHX, ADH-3, or GSNOR, is a crucial cytoplasmic enzyme composed of 374 amino acids and is part of the class III subfamily of alcohol dehydrogenases. ADH5 plays a vital role in cellular metabolism by catalyzing the oxidation of various substrates, including long-chain primary alcohols and S-hydroxymethyl-glutathione, which is formed from the reaction of formaldehyde with glutathione. ADH5′s ability to oxidize S-hydroxymethyl-glutathione is particularly important as this process helps to detoxify formaldehyde, a potentially harmful byproduct of cellular metabolism. ADH5 exists as a homodimer, which is essential for enzymatic activity and stability.
