ACAT-2 Antibody (4A5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects ACAT-2 of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-ACAT-2 antibody (4A5) is available as a non-conjugated format. ACAT-2, also known as acetyl-CoA transferase-like protein or cytosolic acetoacetyl-CoA thiolase, plays a crucial role in lipid metabolism by catalyzing the reversible conversion of acetoacetyl-CoA to two acetyl-CoA molecules, which is essential for energy production and metabolic regulation. This 397 amino acid protein belongs to the thiolase family and functions as a homotetramer, highlighting structural importance in maintaining enzymatic activity. Proper functioning of ACAT-2 is vital for the synthesis and degradation of ketone bodies, which are key energy sources during periods of fasting or low carbohydrate intake. Dysregulation of ACAT-2 can lead to metabolic disorders, making ACAT-2 a significant target for research in metabolic diseases and potential therapeutic interventions.
